Yuri Villar

Yuri Villar is a saxophonist, composer and arranger from Rio. He graduated in sax from UFRJ and was part of the Itiberê Orquestra Família from 2003 to 2010. With the Orchestra, he recorded two CDs and traveled on tours throughout Latin America. At the same time, he played in the Big Band UFRJazz and in the samba "gafieiras", in the recently revitalized Lapa (RJ). He has been an activist in original instrumental music since the beginning of his career, working with the groups Água Viva, Inventos, Bondesom and Relógio de Dalí. He is also a music producer and arranger of several albums (Noca da Portela, Zé Katimba, Luiza Sales, Bondesom etc.) and soundtracks, such as the award-winning film “Sudoeste” (Eduardo Nunes 2011) signed by him. In 2019 he released his first solo album “Futuro Agora”, a retrospective of his musical experience inspired by the birth of his first son Matias. Since then, he has released numerous singles and two self-titled EPs.
