Marcelo Cavalcante

Marcelo Cavalcante is a guitarist, composer and singer from Pernambuco. The artist values the relationship between sung poetry combined with urban musicality, bringing other elements to the tradition of singers, with reference to MPB from the 70s, and northeastern psychedelia. He released the frevo Alto do Bonsucesso (2019), his first single. In the web series “Convida o Frevo”, available on YouTube, inviting new frevo artists. On the EP (In)produtivo (2021), from the perspective of a pandemic, he translated observations from everyday life into songs, addressing topics such as scientific denialism and mental health. He is also part of the Avoada collective, which released the album “Depois da Curva” in 2022. In the same year he released the single Pitanga, influenced by Cuban music, featuring Argentine singer Chula Blasco. In his new singles Até Mais Tarde and O Toque, he combines aesthetic elements of MPB and 70s pop, the two tracks precede his first album Rei Morto, released in December 2023, which also has a lot of influence from progressive rock, MPB and Pernambuco psychedelia, with very political themes, and lyrics that point to existentialism.
